On the final day of January, the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City set the stage for a thrilling boxing spectacle. The highly anticipated clash between Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson headlined the ‘Championship Showdown’ fight card, broadcast live on DAZN Pay-Per-View. The stakes were high as the fighters vied for Lopez’s lineal and WBO super lightweight titles. Stevenson, with his sights set on becoming a four-division world champion, faced off against Lopez, who aimed to defend his titles with grit and determination.

The evening’s action commenced around 23:00 GMT/18:00 ET, with the main event living up to its billing. Lopez, boasting a record of 22-2 with 13 KOs, started strong, landing two swift left hands. However, Stevenson, undefeated at 25-0 with 11 KOs, finished the first round with a flurry, showcasing his jab and settling into the bout.

Stevenson’s hand speed and accuracy were on full display in the early rounds, leaving Lopez struggling to find his rhythm. Despite Lopez’s attempts to dictate the pace, Stevenson seemed to be in his element, countering with precision and ease. Stevenson’s jab was a key weapon, allowing him to control the tempo of the fight.

Lopez had a brief resurgence in the eighth round, applying pressure and landing two body shots. However, this was a fleeting moment in an otherwise dominant performance by Stevenson. As the fight progressed, Lopez appeared to be running out of ideas, while Stevenson’s speed and accuracy remained constant. Stevenson’s diligence paid off as he bloodied Lopez, who had no answer to his opponent’s relentless attacks.

The judges’ scorecards reflected Stevenson’s dominance, with all three scoring the fight 119-109 in his favor. Stevenson was crowned the new Ring Magazine/WBO super lightweight champion, marking a significant milestone in his career.

In the co-main event, Keyshawn Davis and Jamaine Ortiz faced off in the super lightweight division. Davis, with a record of 14-0 and 10 KOs, started brightly, using his jab effectively and controlling the early rounds with his speed. Ortiz, at 20-3-1 with 10 KOs, struggled to close the distance and land significant punches.

Davis’s speed and activity gave him the edge in most rounds. In the seventh round, Davis began to push Ortiz back, maintaining his dominance. A left to the body in the eleventh round forced Ortiz to take a knee, further emphasizing Davis’s control. In the final round, Davis applied pressure and picked his shots impressively, while Ortiz went into survival mode.

The ‘Championship Showdown’ fight card delivered on its promise, providing fans with a night of high-stakes boxing action. The victories by Stevenson and Davis have set the stage for exciting future matchups in the super lightweight division.
