In a highly anticipated bout, Subriel Matias is set to make his first defense of the WBC super lightweight world title against the undefeated Dalton Smith this Saturday in the vibrant heart of New York. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn will host this thrilling encounter, promising an evening of high-stakes boxing action.

Matias, the reigning champion, brings a formidable record of 23-2 with 22 knockouts to the ring. This will be his second stint as a world champion, having previously held the IBF super lightweight title. The Puerto Rican fighter, now 33, claimed the WBC title in a majority decision victory over Alberto Puello last July. However, his journey has not been without controversy. Matias recently tested positive for Ostarine, a banned substance, though he has been cleared to fight by the New York State Athletic Commission, which ruled the levels in his system were below the threshold.

On the other side of the ring, Dalton Smith, with an unblemished record of 18-0 and 13 knockouts, is poised to challenge Matias. The 28-year-old British fighter first made waves on the international stage with a stunning body shot knockout of former title challenger Jose Zepeda in March 2024, securing the WBC Silver title. Smith has continued his winning streak in 2025, with victories over Walid Ouizza and Mathieu Germain, setting the stage for this championship bout.

While Matias enters the fight as the betting favorite, Smith’s rising star and impressive track record suggest he is more than capable of pulling off an upset. This clash promises to be a test of skill, endurance, and determination, with both fighters aiming to prove their mettle in the super lightweight division.

In another exciting matchup on the undercard, Alfredo Santiago will face Hendri Cedeno in an all-Dominican showdown. Santiago, with a record of 17-2 and 8 knockouts, is looking to secure a second world title shot. His journey has seen him overcome setbacks and emerge stronger, particularly after moving up in weight. Cedeno, undefeated in 16 bouts with 12 knockouts, will be a formidable opponent, having claimed the WBO Intercontinental strap. The winner of this bout could potentially earn a shot at WBO champion Teofimo Lopez, adding even more stakes to this already thrilling matchup.

Additionally, Nestor Bravo will aim to return to his winning ways as he takes on Pedro Campa in a super lightweight showdown. Bravo, with a record of 23-1 and 16 knockouts, suffered his first professional defeat earlier this year and is eager to bounce back. Campa, with a record of 37-4-1 and 25 knockouts, is also looking to reclaim his momentum after a recent setback. This bout promises to be a fierce battle, with both fighters determined to prove their resilience and skill.

As the boxing world turns its attention to Brooklyn, fans can expect an evening filled with high-octane action, dramatic showdowns, and the crowning of new champions. The stage is set, the fighters are ready, and the anticipation is palpable. Stay tuned for what promises to be an unforgettable night of boxing.
