In the realm of professional boxing, where endurance and resilience are paramount, Colm Murphy stands out as a beacon of extraordinary conditioning and mental fortitude. As the Belfast native gears up for a grueling schedule of back-to-back twelve-round fights in early 2026, his unique approach to training and preparation is turning heads and setting new standards in the sport.

Murphy’s upcoming Commonwealth title fight against Saleh Kassim is not just another bout; it’s a testament to his unparalleled stamina and dedication. This fight marks his second twelve-round contest within six months, with another scheduled just weeks later. If both fights go the distance, Murphy will have logged an astonishing 24 championship rounds within an eight-week window—a feat that is virtually unheard of in modern boxing.

“I’m ready to do these twelve rounders,” Murphy confidently stated. “I’m built for them.” This confidence is not merely rooted in his rigorous gym workouts but also in his extraordinary extracurricular activities. In May, the 25-year-old completed the Belfast Marathon, an achievement that few professional boxers would even consider during an active career. “I ran the marathon in May, then had my twelve-rounder in August. Now I’ve got two more twelve-rounders coming up—and I’m doing the marathon again in May,” he revealed.

The numbers are staggering: two marathons and three twelve-round fights within a single year. This remarkable feat is a testament to Murphy’s peak physical condition and his unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the sport. “It’s a testament to my physical condition. That’s not something many fighters can say,” he added.

While marathon running and professional boxing may seem worlds apart, Murphy believes that the crossover has strengthened both his body and his mindset. Long-distance training has sharpened his ability to stay composed under fatigue—a quality that becomes priceless in the later rounds of elite fights. “You learn a lot about yourself doing things like that. When you’re tired, when it’s uncomfortable—that’s when fights are won,” he explained.

This resilience was evident in his European silver title win, where Murphy controlled the proceedings throughout and emerged stronger from the experience. “I handled that occasion very well. I rose to it significantly. A twelve-rounder is something no one can ever take from you. Once you’ve done it, it stays with you. It’s a good way to build the repertoire. The more rounds you do, the more you grow,” he reflected.

As Colm Murphy continues to redefine the limits of endurance in boxing, his journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and a reminder of the extraordinary feats that can be achieved through dedication, hard work, and an unyielding spirit.
