Conor Benn’s Bold Move: A New Chapter with Zuffa Boxing

In a stunning turn of events, Conor Benn has made a high-profile switch to Zuffa Boxing, leaving behind his former promotional team, Matchroom. The 29-year-old boxer has been the talk of the town since his move, which is reportedly a one-fight deal worth a staggering $15 million. Benn’s decision has sparked widespread debate and criticism, but he remains steadfast in his belief that he owes no explanations or debts to his former team.

Benn’s departure from Matchroom, led by Eddie Hearn, has been particularly contentious given Hearn’s unwavering support during Benn’s turbulent period marked by two failed drug tests. These incidents led to the cancellation of Benn’s highly anticipated bout with Chris Eubank Jr., originally scheduled for October 2022. Hearn has publicly expressed his disappointment, claiming to have lent Benn ‘hundreds of thousands of pounds’ during this challenging time. Despite Hearn’s assertions, Benn has made it clear that he does not feel indebted to Matchroom.

In a recent interview, Benn emphasized his priorities, stating, ‘I don’t feel like I owe anybody anything. I owe my family, I owe my son a good life, a blessed life. I owe opening doors for my son that no one else can open. That’s my responsibility. He is my legacy.’ Benn’s focus on his family and legacy underscores his determination to carve his own path in the boxing world.

Benn’s debut under the Zuffa banner is set for April 11, where he will face former super lightweight world champion Regis Prograis in a 150-pound catchweight bout. This fight will be part of the undercard for Tyson Fury’s comeback against Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Benn’s return to this venue is significant, as it was the site of his two bouts with Eubank Jr., the second of which he won by unanimous decision in November after suffering his first professional defeat to Eubank Jr. last April.

Looking ahead, Benn’s ambitions remain firmly set on winning a world title at welterweight. He has his sights set on a showdown with WBC champion Ryan Garcia. ‘I want the WBC world title this year,’ Benn declared. ‘That is a must. It’s almost guaranteed that I fight for the world title at the end of the year, providing I do what I need to do on April 11.’

As Benn steps into this new chapter of his career, the boxing world watches with bated breath, eager to see how this bold move will unfold. One thing is certain: Conor Benn is determined to leave his mark on the sport, driven by his commitment to his family and his legacy.
