In a recent revelation, Eddie Hearn, the renowned boxing promoter, has disclosed the ambitions of Oleksandr Usyk, the Ukrainian heavyweight sensation. During their meeting in Saudi Arabia, Usyk expressed his keen interest in facing Deontay Wilder, a bout that could potentially take place in the United States later this year.

The duo was spotted together at the Naoya Inoue vs Alan Picasso fight, where Hearn, the Matchroom Chairman, shared insights into Usyk’s mindset. ‘The Cat,’ as Usyk is affectionately known, has been vocal about his desire to challenge the best fighters of his generation, specifically mentioning Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Deontay Wilder.

‘I want to fight all the key fighters of my era,’ Usyk told Hearn, emphasizing his ambition to add Wilder’s name to his impressive resume. Since his transition to the heavyweight division in 2019, Usyk has been a force to be reckoned with, securing victories against every opponent in his path and establishing himself as the best heavyweight of the past decade.

Usyk’s last fight was a spectacular display of his prowess, where he dominated Daniel Dubois, dropping him twice before stopping the contest in the fifth round at the iconic Wembley Stadium. This victory further solidified Usyk’s status as a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

On the other hand, Deontay Wilder’s recent performances have been less than stellar. His last fight in June ended with a seventh-round stoppage of Tyrrell Herndon. Prior to this, Wilder suffered consecutive defeats to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker. Despite his recent struggles, Wilder’s legacy in the heavyweight division is undeniable. He once ruled the division, defending his titles for over four years and stopping nine of his ten opponents during his reign as the WBC world champion.

Hearn, however, believes that Usyk’s skills and current form will be too much for Wilder to handle. ‘Wilder is a big draw, but for me, he’s well past his best. I don’t see it as an overly competitive fight,’ Hearn stated. An official announcement for the Usyk vs Wilder bout appears to be on the horizon, promising an exciting clash between two of the heavyweight division’s most prominent figures.
