In a remarkable display of athleticism and compassion, George ‘The Billericay Bomber’ Liddard, 23, successfully defended his British and Commonwealth Middleweight titles and then went on to complete the Brentwood Half Marathon, all within the span of a single weekend.
The young champion, with an impressive record of 14-0 and 8 KOs, faced off against former European title holder Tyler Denny in a grueling 12-round battle at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday night. Liddard emerged victorious, securing a unanimous points decision and claiming the vacant IBF Intercontinental crown.
Less than 24 hours later, Liddard joined thousands of runners at the starting line of the Matchroom Brentwood Half Marathon. Despite the physical toll of the previous night’s fight, he completed the 13.1-mile course in just over two and a half hours. His participation was not just a personal challenge but also a charitable endeavor, aiming to raise awareness and funds for the young son of close friends who had suffered a tragic accident.
“I’m a man of my word,” Liddard stated, his face marked by the previous night’s battle but his spirit unbroken. “I had to be here to support their cause. I’m a little sore and didn’t get much sleep, but it was great to join so many others raising money for charity.”
Liddard’s dedication and resilience have earned him widespread admiration. Matchroom President Barry Hearn and Chairman Eddie Hearn were among those who welcomed him at the finish line, praising his extraordinary feat.
