The World Boxing Association (WBA) has officially announced a highly anticipated lightweight title fight at 135lbs, following the recent developments involving Gervonta Davis. The former champion was stripped of his belt in January and subsequently designated as the ‘champion in recess’ due to legal issues unrelated to his boxing career. This status means Davis remains on the periphery of the lightweight division, leaving the path open for a new champion to be crowned.

The WBA’s decision to order this title showdown has sent ripples through the boxing community, as it sets the stage for a thrilling contest to determine the new lightweight champion. While Davis deals with his personal matters, the lightweight division is poised to witness a fresh chapter, with new contenders vying for the prestigious title.

In other boxing news, the light heavyweight division is also heating up. Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg are set to clash for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 327 on April 11. This bout promises to be a spectacle, with both fighters bringing impressive records and a hunger for the championship belt. Prochazka, a former champion forced to vacate his title due to injury, has made a strong comeback with consecutive wins. Ulberg, on the other hand, has been steadily climbing the ranks since his UFC debut in 2020.

Adding to the excitement, the heavyweight division is set to witness a historic crossover event. Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing, will face Rico Verhoeven, the top kickboxer in the world, at the iconic Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on May 23. This unique bout will bring together the best from both sports, promising an unforgettable showdown.

Closer to home, the British heavyweight title will be on the line as Richard Riakporhe challenges Jeamie TKV on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. This event, taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, will also feature a chief support bout between Conor Benn and Regis Prograis, adding to the night’s excitement.

Boxing fans are in for a treat with these upcoming events, as the sport continues to deliver high-stakes matches and unforgettable moments. Stay tuned for more updates as these stories develop.
