The bantamweight division has always been a hotbed of talent, with numerous contenders vying for a shot at the championship. This was evident in 2025 when Merab Dvalishvili made four appearances in the Octagon, defending his title three times before ultimately falling to Petr Yan at UFC 323. Yan’s victory marked the culmination of a grueling 4-and-a-half year journey back to the top, which included a 2-and-a-half year period without a win.

As we look ahead to 2026, all eyes are on the bantamweight division, with several key fighters poised to make their mark. Among them is Nabil Anane, who has set his sights on two particular opponents he hopes to face in the coming year. Anane’s ambition is palpable, and his determination to test himself against the best in the division is a testament to his skill and resolve.

One of the most anticipated matchups on the horizon is the January 24th showdown between former bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and Song Yadong. O’Malley, a Colorado native, holds a victory over Song in their previous encounter. However, with losses to both Nurmagomedov and Yan in his past, O’Malley may need to navigate through the rankings before he can realistically aim for another title shot. Song Yadong, meanwhile, is focusing on improving his wrestling skills and believes he is reaching his peak. A win over O’Malley would not only be a significant accomplishment but also bring him one step closer to a title shot.

The bantamweight division is not the only one generating excitement. The year 2025 was a banner year for boxing, featuring multiple title and super fights. Among the highlights were Reina Tellez’s triumphs for the WBA, WBO, and The Ring featherweight titles in January, Dalton Smith’s victory for the WBC super lightweight title, and Shakur Stevenson’s impressive wins for the WBO and The Ring super lightweight titles.

As we look ahead to 2026, the boxing world is abuzz with anticipation. With Nabil Anane setting his sights on key matchups and the bantamweight division brimming with talent, fans can expect another thrilling year of action and drama in the ring.
