In the wake of his spectacular victory, Dalton Smith has become the latest sensation in the boxing world. The 28-year-old British boxer delivered a stunning knockout to Subriel Matias, securing the WBC super lightweight world championship title in a thrilling match last Saturday in Brooklyn. Smith’s victory has not only earned him a world title but also placed a target on his back, drawing the attention of several high-profile fighters eager to challenge the new champion.

Smith has set his sights on a unification bout with the winner of the upcoming January 31 clash between WBO champion Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. The highly anticipated showdown is set to take place at the iconic Madison Square Garden, and Smith has expressed his intention to be ringside, signaling his eagerness to face the victor.

Adding to the growing list of potential challengers, undefeated former lightweight world champion Keyshawn Davis has openly expressed his interest in a future bout with Smith. Davis, who is set to return to the ring in a super lightweight clash against Jamaine Ortiz on the undercard of the Lopez vs. Stevenson fight, had high praise for Smith. “Dalton Smith, you’re on fire,” Davis remarked. “You’ve got a impressive record. We could make something happen here. He’s a great champion and has been around for some time. We all know him. It’s no fluke; he’s 19-0, knocking out guys like Subriel. Hats off to Dalton Smith.”

However, before any unification bouts or high-profile matchups, Smith is mandated to face former WBC champion Alberto Puello, who lost his title to Matias in July. Despite this obligation, there is hope within Smith’s camp to squeeze in another fight before the mandatory bout. Frank Smith, CEO of Matchroom, has been exploring the possibility of organizing a fight at Hillsborough Stadium, the home ground of Smith’s beloved Sheffield Wednesday football club.

“There’s the Shakur vs. Teofimo fight happening on January 31,” Frank Smith stated. “A unification bout against the winner would be massive. There’s also the WBC mandatory against Alberto Puello. Hopefully, we can fit in another fight before that. We’re aiming for the biggest fights possible, and Dalton is in a position to be part of those significant events.”

Frank Smith further hinted at a potential summer showdown, mentioning ongoing discussions with Hillsborough Stadium officials. “July at Hillsborough would be perfect,” he added, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what promises to be an exciting period for the newly crowned champion.
