In a recent interview with Tom Aspinall, UFC lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett has called for a significant overhaul of the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. The Liverpool native has expressed his desire to see the official UFC rules align more closely with those used in PRIDE FC or RIZIN. Specifically, Pimblett is advocating for the legalization of knees and soccer kicks to grounded opponents.
Pimblett argues that the current rule set offers too much protection to wrestlers who fail their takedown attempts, allowing them to stall rather than face the consequences of a poor entry. He believes that adopting rules previously used in Japan’s PRIDE FC and currently utilized by RIZIN Fighting Federation could address this issue. However, Pimblett drew a line at certain extreme measures, indicating a balanced approach to his proposed changes.
