In a thrilling matchup set to ignite the boxing world, Tahmir Smalls is poised to defend his WBA Continental North America Welterweight title against the formidable Abel Ramos. The bout will take place at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on Saturday, February 28, serving as the headline act for the undercard of the highly anticipated unification clash between Emanuel Navarrete and Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez.

Smalls, hailing from Philadelphia, has been making waves in the welterweight division. With an impressive record of 16-0 and 11 knockouts, Smalls claimed his title in his last fight on home turf, defeating Jose Roman Vazquez with a dominant performance that saw Vazquez hit the canvas twice over ten rounds. This victory marked Smalls’ biggest win to date and set the stage for his upcoming showdown with Ramos.

Ramos, a two-time world title challenger from Phoenix, brings a wealth of experience to the ring. With a record of 28-6-3 and 22 knockouts, Ramos is no stranger to high-stakes battles. His last outing was a grueling world title bout against WBC champion Mario Barrios in Texas, which ended in a draw. Ramos is eager to secure a third shot at a world title, having previously faced Yordenis Ugas for the WBA strap in September 2020.

For Smalls, this fight represents a crucial opportunity to further establish himself in the welterweight division. The 26-year-old is determined to make a statement and has set his sights on bigger fights at 147 pounds. “2026 is my year,” declared Smalls. “I am coming for everybody that is in my way to becoming World champion in the division, and that starts with Abel Ramos on February 28.”

Smalls has also issued a bold challenge to other top names in the division, including Devin Haney, Mario Barrios, Rolly Romero, and Lewis Crocker. “I am taking over the Welterweight division and there is nothing stopping me,” he asserted. “On February 28, Abel Ramos – it’s belt to ass. Statement time.”

Ramos, equally determined, expressed his excitement about returning to the ring. “It’s going to be an action-packed fight card, and I am ready to put on a show for all my people here in Phoenix,” he said.

In another exciting matchup on the stacked card, Arturo Cardenas will defend his WBC Continental Americas Super-Bantamweight title against Jordan Martinez. Cardenas, with a record of 17-0-1 and 9 knockouts, will face the unbeaten Martinez, who boasts a record of 16-0 and 15 knockouts. Both fighters are eager to claim victory and continue their climb towards a world title.

Cardenas expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to perform on such a prestigious card. “On February 28, I am looking forward to putting on an exciting fight for the fans there in Arizona and continuing my climb to a World title,” he said.

Martinez, hailing from Arizona, is equally determined to make his mark. “Arturo is making a big mistake in taking this fight,” he declared. “This is the opportunity I have been waiting for, asking for, and now it’s finally here. This is my city….”

With such high stakes and intense rivalries, the February 28 fight card promises to be an unforgettable night of boxing action.
