In a thrilling announcement that has set the boxing world abuzz, USA Boxing unveiled its 2026 Men’s Youth High Performance Team this Monday. The team, comprising nine exceptional athletes, is poised to make its mark at the prestigious World Boxing Futures Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, and throughout the year’s competitive calendar. This revelation follows a rigorous Selection Camp held at the esteemed United States Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where all nine invitees earned their stripes on the team.

The roster spans an impressive nine weight classes, with eight of the nine boxers making their debut on the team. This infusion of fresh talent underscores the depth and competitiveness of USA Boxing’s youth development program. Edward Fonteneaux, USA Boxing’s National Development Coach, expressed his enthusiasm and confidence in the team’s potential. “This men’s team embodies the competitive spirit and skill necessary to excel at the international level,” Fonteneaux stated. “I am eager to see them represent the United States and demonstrate their prowess, aiming for the top of the podium.”

Leading the charge is Angel Blancarte from Hutchinson, Kansas, who has been named the men’s team captain for the second consecutive year. Blancarte’s veteran experience and leadership qualities are expected to guide the team through a year of intense competition. Fonteneaux highlighted Blancarte’s growth and discipline, noting, “After breaking out of his shell and showcasing his character and leadership, it became clear that he is the individual who will hold this team accountable and drive them towards success.”

The 2026 USA Boxing Youth High Performance Team is set to embark on their journey to Thailand on March 4, departing from the USOPTC in Colorado Springs. Their first major test will be the World Boxing Futures Cup, scheduled from March 8 to 15. The team will be under the expert guidance of National Development Coach Edward Fonteneaux, assisted by a cadre of High Performance Pool coaches, including Holly Gregson, Jason Hamilton, Yessenia Montalvo, and Ronald Wright.

As the team prepares to take on the world, fans and enthusiasts are encouraged to follow their journey on social media platforms for an inside look at the dedication and determination of these young athletes representing Team USA.

In the realm of Olympic sports, the spotlight has also been on other disciplines. The recent Winter Olympics in Milan saw Team USA’s hockey teams, both men’s and women’s, clinch gold medals. The men’s team, in particular, ended a 46-year drought, while the women’s team continued their dominance, having won gold in the previous Olympics as well. This success across various sports underscores the bright future of American athletics on the global stage.
