In a dazzling display of skill and strategy, Shakur Stevenson ascended to the super lightweight division on Saturday, January 31, at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City. His victory over Teofimo Lopez not only secured him the lineal and WBO super lightweight titles but also etched his name in the annals of boxing history as a four-division world champion. The night was electric, and the call-out that followed has set the boxing world abuzz.

Stevenson’s performance against Lopez was nothing short of masterful. He orchestrated the fight with precision, controlling the tempo and distance with a sharp jab. His ability to anticipate and slip punches was a testament to his defensive prowess, making it a joy to watch for boxing enthusiasts. The unanimous decision, with all scorecards reading 119-109 in his favor, reflected his dominance from the opening bell to the final round.

In the aftermath of his victory, Stevenson wasted no time in calling out Conor Benn, who was present at the event. The exchange was heated, with Stevenson challenging Benn to a fight at 147 pounds. “There’s a fighter in here right now, and he motivated me too. Where’s Conor Benn?” Stevenson declared. “Hey Conor Benn, we can get it banging, boy. We can get it banging! I want that same rehydration clause that you put on (Chris) Eubank Jr., and I want a fight.”

Benn, never one to back down, quickly made his way into the ring to confront Stevenson. “You’re too small for me,” Benn retorted. “You’re tiny, you’re tiny. You can’t punch. You can’t keep me off of you. I’ll rough you up.” Undeterred, Stevenson responded, “Sign the contract. Let’s make it happen. Eddie (Hearn), I want him, he’s food.”

Eddie Hearn, who promotes Benn, has weighed in on the potential clash. “I’m looking at that fight as someone who represents Conor Benn, and I’m thinking the only bit I like in that fight is the size,” Hearn said. “Because Conor has a big size advantage, and he’ll punch a lot harder than Shakur, but it’s Shakur. It’s a very difficult fight, but Conor’s just out of control on smoke and wants everybody.”

Hearn also noted that while the fight might not come with a world championship belt at 147 pounds, it could be financially lucrative, which is undoubtedly attractive to Benn. The potential showdown between Stevenson and Benn has sparked intense speculation among fans and analysts alike. If the fight materializes, it promises to be a thrilling encounter, pitting Stevenson’s technical brilliance against Benn’s raw power and aggression.

As the boxing world eagerly awaits further developments, one thing is certain: Shakur Stevenson’s historic victory and his subsequent call-out have added a new layer of excitement to the sport. Whether or not the fight with Conor Benn comes to fruition, Stevenson’s performance against Teofimo Lopez has solidified his status as one of the most skilled and exciting fighters in the world today.
