In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Amanda Serrano, the reigning women’s featherweight champion, successfully defended her WBA and WBO titles against a game Reina Tellez on Saturday night. The bout, held at the iconic Coliseo Roberto Clemente in Serrano’s hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico, marked a significant moment in women’s boxing.

Serrano, boasting an impressive record of 47-4-1 with 31 KOs, entered the ring with the weight of expectation on her shoulders. Despite her recent loss to Katie Taylor in their trilogy bout, Serrano was determined to bounce back and prove her dominance in the featherweight division. Tellez, on the other hand, stepped into the ring with an undefeated record of 13-0-1 and 5 KOs, ready to challenge the champion.

The fight was scheduled for 10 three-minute rounds under men’s boxing rules, adding an extra layer of intensity to the contest. From the opening bell, Serrano’s swarming offense was on full display. However, as the rounds progressed, Serrano’s corner had to work diligently to manage the swelling around her eye, ensuring it did not hinder her performance.

By the middle rounds, Serrano’s caution was evident, but her corner’s expert care allowed her to resume her high-volume output in the latter half of the fight. In Round 5, Serrano began to target Tellez’s body, but the challenger stood her ground, fighting off the relentless champion with admirable resilience.

Despite Tellez’s commendable effort, Serrano’s experience and skill ultimately prevailed. The judges’ scorecards reflected Serrano’s dominance, as she secured a unanimous decision victory. This win not only solidifies Serrano’s status as a featherweight powerhouse but also sets the stage for an exciting year in women’s boxing.

Serrano’s triumphant return to the featherweight division is a testament to her enduring skill and determination. As the only Puerto Rican boxer, male or female, to win world titles in more than four divisions, Serrano continues to break barriers and inspire future generations of boxers. Her performance against Tellez was a masterclass in featherweight boxing, showcasing her ability to adapt and overcome challenges in the ring.

With this victory, Serrano has once again proven why she is considered one of the greatest female boxers of all time. As the boxing world looks ahead to the rest of 2026, Serrano’s name will undoubtedly be at the forefront of the conversation, with fans eagerly anticipating her next move in the ring.
