Chris Eubank Jr’s career has always been shrouded in a certain level of mystery. His most notable victories include triumphs over James DeGale and Arthur Abraham. He turned the tables on Liam Smith, halting the Liverpudlian’s progress in 2023. However, his two intense bouts with Conor Benn in 2025 left fans questioning if Eubank Jr would ever step into the ring again. His promoter, Ben Shalom, has recently shed some light on the future of the 36-year-old boxer.

Eubank Jr’s health concerns were amplified by his underwhelming performance against Benn in their rematch. The grit and determination he displayed in their first encounter seemed to have vanished. There has been little information from Eubank Jr’s inner circle regarding his health and future in the sport. However, Shalom, the founder and CEO of Boxxer, has hinted at a potential 2026 return for Eubank Jr.

“I’m actually planning to meet him this week. He’s been undergoing various medical procedures to address and hopefully eliminate the issues he’s been facing,” Shalom stated. “Once that’s completed, he should be back, most likely at 168 pounds. There was an underlying issue that needed to be addressed, and I believe we were all aware of that. Hopefully, we can look forward to his return around the middle of the year.”

It was evident from the fight that Eubank Jr was not at his best, but that should not detract from Benn’s impressive performance. When questioned about whether the weight restrictions imposed on Eubank Jr had impacted his health, Shalom responded, “Not directly, but could it have worsened the situation? Possibly.”

Shalom also expressed his views on rehydration clauses, suggesting they should be banned. He acknowledged that promoters and fighters will always seek any advantage they can get, but he also highlighted the dangers of such practices. “Most people wouldn’t step into a ring for money, so they’ll accept any offer, no matter how risky. That’s where regulators need to step in and say, ‘That’s not allowed.’ It shouldn’t be permitted. I regret seeing it, but ultimately, the fighters have control over their own bodies, and there’s only so much we can do.”

The exact nature of Eubank Jr’s health issue remains unclear. However, Shalom assured that it needs to be resolved to some extent for Eubank Jr to be allowed back in the ring. “That’s why he’s taking this time out. There wasn’t enough time between April and what ended up being November, initially September, to address the issue. It required proper medical attention, which he didn’t…
