In a stunning display of skill and determination, Dalton Smith (19-0, 14 KOs) claimed his first world title by securing a fifth-round technical knockout against Subriel Matías (23-3, 22 KOs). The fight, which took place at the iconic Barclays Center in New York City, saw Smith emerge as the new WBC super lightweight champion. The official stoppage time was marked at 2:24 of the fifth round, signaling a pivotal moment in Smith’s career as he stepped up to the challenge of a world title bout for the first time.

Smith began the fight by maintaining a strategic distance, utilizing his jab and footwork to keep Matías at bay. However, as the rounds progressed, Smith opted to engage in closer combat, trading blows with the Puerto Rican fighter. This shift in strategy initially favored Matías, who began to find his rhythm and land significant punches. By the end of the fourth round, Smith was sporting a cut near his left eye, the result of an accidental head clash.

The tide turned dramatically in the fifth round. Smith unleashed a series of precise one-two combinations that visibly wobbled Matías. Seizing the moment, Smith followed up with a powerful overhand right that sent Matías crashing to the canvas. Although Matías managed to rise, the referee determined he was unfit to continue, halting the count and awarding Smith the victory.

With this triumph, Dalton Smith has etched his name into the annals of boxing history, bringing the WBC super lightweight title back to the UK. The undercard of this thrilling event also featured several notable bouts. Emmanuel Rodriguez (23-3, 13 KOs, 1 NC) secured a unanimous decision victory against Fernando Diaz (16-7-1, 6 KOs) in a 10-round bantamweight contest. The judges’ scores were 99-90 (x2) and 97-92, with Diaz suffering a knockdown in the first round from a left hook.

Jeyvier Cintrón (14-1, 7 KOs, 1 NC) impressed with a first-round technical knockout against Victor Efrain Sandoval (38-6, 24 KOs). Cintrón’s relentless assault, which included multiple knockdowns, culminated in a barrage of punches that forced the referee to stop the fight at 2:40 of the first round. Nestor Bravo (24-1, 17 KOs, 1 NC) delivered a spectacular second-round knockout against Pedro Campa (37-5-1, 25 KOs), with a left hook rendering Campa unconscious at 1:23 of the second round.

Keith Colon (9-0, 9 KOs) continued his undefeated streak with a seventh-round technical knockout victory over Alberto Guevara (28-9, 13 KOs). Colon’s powerful hooks in the fifth round set the stage for the eventual stoppage at 1:09 of the seventh round.

This evening of boxing showcased the raw talent and determination of some of the sport’s most promising fighters. Dalton Smith’s victory, in particular, stands as a testament to his skill and resilience, marking the beginning of what promises to be an illustrious championship reign.
