In a highly anticipated featherweight clash, WBA world champion Nick Ball is set to defend his title against the formidable Brandon Figueroa this Saturday in Liverpool. The height disparity between the two fighters has been a major topic of discussion, with Ball standing at 5’2″ and Figueroa towering at 5’9″. However, Ball is no stranger to facing taller opponents, having previously fought Rey Vargas, who stands at 5’10”, in a contentious draw in March 2024.

Ball’s only blemish on his record came against Vargas in a split decision draw in Riyadh, where one judge scored the fight 114-112 in Ball’s favor after he knocked Vargas down twice. Since then, Ball has been on a remarkable run, securing the WBA world title with a split decision victory over Raymond Ford in Saudi Arabia. With two stoppages in his last three fights, Ball is in fine form and ready to put on a show for his hometown crowd.

Figueroa, known as ‘The Heartbreaker,’ is coming off an impressive unanimous decision win over Joet Gonzalez, who previously faced Shakur Stevenson. Figueroa’s last defeat came at the hands of Stephen Fulton in a rematch, with Fulton also winning their first encounter in 2021. The Texan is determined to spoil Ball’s Liverpool homecoming and add another title to his collection.

The fight will take place on Saturday, February 7, at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. The broadcast will begin at 7pm GMT, with the main event ring walks expected to start at approximately 10:15pm GMT. Fans can catch all the action live on DAZN, with subscriptions starting at £15.99 per month or £119.99 annually.

In his last three fights, Ball has showcased his dominance with a unanimous decision victory over Sam Goodman, a 10th round retirement win against TJ Doheny, and a 10th round TKO against Ronny Rios. Figueroa, on the other hand, has a unanimous decision win over Joet Gonzalez, a loss to Stephen Fulton, and a 9th round KO victory against Jessie Magdaleno.

The undercard features a bout between Andrew Cain and Alejandro Jair, adding to the excitement of the evening. With both fighters in top form and eager to prove their mettle, the stage is set for an unforgettable night of boxing in Liverpool.
