In the realm of boxing, where every punch thrown carries a story, Paul Loonam’s journey is one that resonates deeply. As he prepares to step back into the ring, the 24-year-old prospect from JB Promotions carries with him the enduring spirit of his late father, a force that continues to fuel his fight journey.

Loonam’s last bout was more than just a victory; it was a tribute, a deeply personal moment that transcended the sport itself. His triumph over Jake Pollard at the 3Arena was a testament to his resilience, a quality that has defined his career and personal life. The emotions from that night remain vivid, a poignant reminder of the love and support that surrounds him.

“Every day is a journey through grief,” Loonam shared, his words carrying the weight of his experiences. “It hasn’t been easy, but having something to look forward to, like my upcoming fight on February 7, keeps me going.” His focus is unwavering, a testament to his dedication and the strength he draws from his father’s memory.

Since turning professional, Loonam has built impressive momentum. With the BUI Celtic title already under his belt, he is a rising star in the boxing world. “I’m truly blessed,” he remarked. “At just 6-0, I’ve had the opportunity to box in major arenas. Jay Byrne and the team have given me incredible chances, and now it’s about letting my boxing speak for itself and earning my place back on those big stages.”

Looking ahead, Loonam’s ambitions are clear. “I want big fights—Irish titles, European titles—that’s where I see myself going,” he stated. However, he remains grounded, taking each step as it comes. “Life has taught me that you can’t guarantee anything. It’s one step at a time.”

His upcoming clash with Darwin Martinez on February 7 is another crucial step in his journey. “This will probably be one of my last fights over six rounds,” Loonam noted. “I feel comfortable at that level now, and the plan is to move to eight-round fights after this and start pushing on.”

Promoter Byrne has hinted at the possibility of Loonam challenging for another title come April. But for now, Loonam’s focus is solely on February 7—a step forward, both professionally and personally. “It’s about getting the year rolling with a good win,” he said. “I’ll keep working, keep improving, and hopefully move into bigger fights as the year goes on.”

In the world of boxing, where every fight tells a story, Paul Loonam’s journey is one of grief, growth, and the enduring spirit of a father’s love. As he steps back into the ring, he carries with him the memories of the past and the dreams of the future, a true testament to the power of the human spirit.
