In the highly anticipated bout on December 12, 2020, Brian Norman Jr. faced off against the undefeated Devin Haney. The fight, which took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, ended in a unanimous decision victory for Haney, leaving Norman Jr. with more questions than answers.
Norman Jr., who entered the fight with a record of 20-2-1, was hoping to make a statement against the then-WBC and Ring Magazine lightweight champion. However, Haney’s speed, defense, and ring IQ proved to be too much for the challenger.
Throughout the 12-round bout, Haney showcased his elite skills, landing sharp combinations and avoiding Norman Jr.’s power shots. The judges scored the fight 119-109, 118-110, and 117-111, all in favor of Haney.
Following the fight, Norman Jr. admitted that he needs to make adjustments in his training and strategy. ‘I have to go back to the drawing board,’ he said. ‘I need to work on my footwork and my defense. Haney was too quick for me, and I need to find a way to close that gap.’
Despite the loss, Norman Jr. remains a talented fighter with a bright future. He will undoubtedly use this experience as a learning opportunity and come back stronger in his next bout.
