In the ever-evolving saga of heavyweight boxing, the prospect of a monumental clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua continues to captivate fans worldwide. Despite a decade-long buildup, the dream fight has yet to materialize. However, Frank Smith, CEO of Matchroom Boxing and Joshua’s promoter, remains optimistic about the possibility of this epic encounter.

Fury’s recent announcement of his return to the ring has reignited discussions about potential heavyweight showdowns. The ‘Gypsy King’ is set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11th, with the venue still to be confirmed. This bout marks Fury’s comeback after a brief retirement, and a victory could propel him back into the upper echelons of the heavyweight rankings.

Amidst speculation about Fury’s potential opponents, WBO world champion Fabio Wardley has expressed interest in facing the former champion. However, Smith believes that the commercial appeal of a Fury vs. Joshua fight is too significant to risk on other bouts. “I don’t think he will fight Fabio Wardley,” Smith stated. “I don’t think it is commercially big enough for the risk if the ‘AJ’ fight is there.”

Anthony Joshua’s return to the sport remains uncertain, despite assurances from his promoter, Eddie Hearn. Joshua recently shared an emotional update on January 31st, addressing his thoughts following a tragic event in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends. In his statement, Joshua expressed his determination to honor their legacy and continue his boxing career.

“I know what I feel, I know what my duty is,” Joshua said. “The mission must go on. I understand my duty and I understand what they wanted to do for their families. My goal is to continue to help them achieve their goals.”

Spencer Oliver of TalkSPORT has also weighed in on the potential Fury vs. Joshua bout, expressing his belief that the fight can still happen, even at this stage in both men’s careers. “We know now with this emotional statement that Anthony Joshua put out, Anthony Joshua said there is still an appetite for boxing and he will be coming back to boxing,” Oliver said. “So that fight does still happen. I think that at this late stage of their careers we do get Fury vs Joshua.”

As the boxing world eagerly awaits further developments, the possibility of a Fury vs. Joshua showdown continues to loom large. With both fighters set to return to the ring, fans can only hope that this long-awaited clash will finally come to fruition, delivering a spectacle that lives up to the hype and expectations.
