In the ever-evolving landscape of heavyweight boxing, few matchups spark as much intrigue as a potential bout between Daniel ‘DDD’ Dubois and Fabio Wardley. Duke McKenzie, a seasoned three-weight world champion, recently shared his insights on how this explosive clash might unfold. Both fighters are renowned for their devastating power, making this a dream matchup for boxing enthusiasts.

2025 was a year of contrasting fortunes for Dubois and Wardley. Dubois, who was once a formidable force in the heavyweight division, suffered a significant setback when he lost his IBF world title to Oleksandr Usyk in July. The fight, which ended in a fifth-round knockout, left Dubois in need of a strategic comeback. On the other hand, Wardley’s star continued to rise, culminating in him securing a world title.

McKenzie, known for his astute analysis, expressed his enthusiasm for the potential showdown. “I’d probably pay my own money to go and watch that one,” he remarked. “That’s as good as it gets. In world boxing right now, that’s as good as it gets.” However, McKenzie cautioned that Dubois would need a couple of warm-up fights to regain his confidence and rhythm before stepping into the ring with Wardley.

Wardley’s 2025 campaign was nothing short of spectacular. In June, he headlined at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road, delivering a knockout of the year contender against Australian prospect Justis Huni in the 10th round. This victory set the stage for an even more impressive feat in his subsequent fight against Joseph Parker. Despite Parker’s lofty position in the world title frame, Wardley pulled off a stunning upset, stopping the New Zealander in the 11th round. This victory catapulted Wardley to full WBO world champion status.

McKenzie’s warnings about Wardley’s prowess were stark. “Fabio doesn’t play, he’s a wrecking machine right now,” McKenzie stated. “Anybody that gets in his way, they’ve got to be ready. You can’t get in there and half step with the kid because he’s an absolute wrecking machine.” McKenzie emphasized that Dubois would need to carefully rebuild his career before considering a fight with Wardley, who is now a bona fide world champion.

Despite McKenzie’s advice, Dubois’ manager, Sam Jones, has indicated that they are not interested in warm-up fights. Instead, they are aiming for a high-stakes return, with Wardley and WBC interim champion Agit Kabayel being the primary targets. This approach adds an element of risk and excitement to Dubois’ potential comeback, as fans eagerly await to see if he can reclaim his former glory.

As the heavyweight division continues to heat up, the prospect of Dubois vs. Wardley remains a tantalizing possibility. With both fighters possessing immense power and a hunger for victory, this matchup could very well be a defining moment in the heavyweight landscape.
