In a bold declaration, British boxer Josh Kelly has expressed his confidence in upsetting the odds against IBF super welterweight world champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in their upcoming title clash. The highly anticipated bout is set to take place at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle next Saturday, promising an electrifying night of boxing.

Kelly, known as ‘Pretty Boy,’ enters the ring as the underdog against the unbeaten Russian champion. However, the 31-year-old Brit is unfazed by the bookmakers’ predictions and believes that Murtazaliev’s aggressive style will play right into his hands. “All the pressure’s on him,” Kelly asserted. “He’s the world champion coming over to my turf. I don’t feel any pressure on me, and I’m ready to perform.”

Kelly’s confidence stems from his belief that Murtazaliev’s aggressive approach will make him more predictable. “Everyone wants to come and try to knock me out,” Kelly explained. “The faster he comes, the harder he tries to punch, the more it suits my rhythm and timing.” This strategic insight highlights Kelly’s plan to use his opponent’s aggression against him.

With a victory, Kelly aims to become Britain’s sixth active male world champion. His recent form has been impressive, with seven consecutive wins since his only professional defeat to David Avanesyan in February 2021. This winning streak has bolstered his confidence and prepared him for the challenge ahead.

Murtazaliev, aged 33, is making the second defense of his title against Kelly. In his last fight, Murtazaliev demonstrated his power by knocking down Tim Tszyu three times in a third-round demolition. However, Kelly insists that he possesses a far superior skillset compared to Tszyu and plans to avoid the mistakes that cost the Australian fighter.

“I believe Tim Tszyu is a good fighter,” Kelly acknowledged. “But he doesn’t have the skillset I have in terms of movement, skill, ability, and IQ in the ring when I’m on form. Tim made the mistake of going to the body early, and I won’t be making the same errors.”

As the fight approaches, Kelly’s strategic confidence and recent form make him a formidable contender. Boxing fans can expect an intense and calculated performance from Kelly as he aims to dethrone the champion and etch his name in boxing history.
