In a bold declaration, British boxer Josh Kelly has expressed his unwavering confidence in his ability to dethrone IBF super welterweight world champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in their upcoming bout in Newcastle. The highly anticipated match, set to take place at the Utilita Arena, has generated significant buzz in the boxing community.

Kelly, often referred to as ‘Pretty Boy,’ enters the ring as the underdog against the undefeated Russian champion. However, the 31-year-old Brit is unfazed by the odds stacked against him. In a recent interview, Kelly stated, “All the pressure is on him. He’s the world champion coming to my turf. I feel no pressure at all and I’m ready to perform.”

Kelly’s confidence stems from his belief that Murtazaliev’s aggressive fighting style will play into his hands. “His style suits my style,” Kelly explained. “When fighters come at me hard and fast, it becomes predictable, and that’s when I can find my rhythm and timing.” Kelly’s strategy revolves around using Murtazaliev’s aggression against him, capitalizing on the champion’s predictable patterns to land precise counterattacks.

With a victory, Kelly aims to become Britain’s sixth active male world champion. His recent track record supports his ambitions, with seven consecutive wins since his sole professional loss to David Avanesyan in February 2021. This impressive streak has showcased Kelly’s resilience and determination to bounce back stronger.

Murtazaliev, aged 33, is preparing for his second title defense. His last fight in October 2024 saw him dominate Tim Tszyu, knocking him down three times in the third round. Kelly, however, remains unimpressed and insists that his skill set far surpasses that of Tszyu. “I respect Tim Tszyu as a fighter, but he doesn’t have the movement, skill, ability, and ring IQ that I possess,” Kelly asserted.

Kelly criticized Tszyu’s approach in his fight against Murtazaliev, stating, “Tszyu made the mistake of engaging in a shootout and going to the body too early. I won’t be making the same errors.” This statement underscores Kelly’s strategic mindset and his plan to outsmart rather than outmuscle his opponent.

As the fight approaches, Kelly’s confidence and strategic insights have set the stage for what promises to be an electrifying showdown. Boxing enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly awaiting the clash, anticipating a thrilling display of skill, strategy, and determination.
