In the wake of the 2025 National Championships held in Lubbock, Texas, the stage is set for the 2026 USA Boxing Elite High Performance Selection Camp. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs will play host to this prestigious gathering, where the crème de la crème of American boxing will vie for a spot on the elite roster.
The Selection Camp, slated to run from January 11 to February 11, will see 33 of the nation’s top boxers across 14 weight classes—seven men’s and seven women’s—undergo rigorous evaluation. The USA Boxing High Performance department has extended invitations to the top two athletes from each Olympic weight class within the Elite division, setting the scene for a month of intense competition and assessment.
Among the attendees are five standout performers from the 2025 Youth Championships, who have recently transitioned to the Elite division. These rising stars include Joseph Awinongya from Joliet, Illinois, Lavant Brownlee from Louisville, Kentucky, Salim Ellis-Bey from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lorenzo Patricio from Waianae, Hawaii, and Nnajai Wright from Richmond, Virginia. Their presence underscores the camp’s role in nurturing young talent and providing a pathway to the Olympic stage.
Adding to the camp’s prestige are several seasoned athletes, including Yoseline Perez from Houston, Texas, a silver medalist at the 2025 World Boxing Championships. The camp will also welcome three Olympians from the Paris 2024 games: Jennifer Lozano from Laredo, Texas, Alyssa Mendoza from Caldwell, Idaho, and Morelle McCane from Cleveland, Ohio. Robby ‘Rahim’ Gonzales, a 2021 World Champion, will also be in attendance, bringing his wealth of experience and international accolades to the camp.
The coaching staff for the Selection Camp is equally impressive, with USA Boxing head coach Billy Walsh at the helm. He will be assisted by Elite assistant coach and National Junior & Youth Head Coach Edward Fonteneaux, along with developmental coach Nikki Burleson. Volunteer coaches William Rafalko, Alex Love, Jeffrey Nimo, and Vladimir Oleinikov will round out the team, ensuring that the athletes receive top-notch guidance and support.
The 2026 USA Boxing Elite High Performance Selection Camp is more than just a training camp; it is a crucible where the future of American boxing will be forged. As these athletes prepare to compete in international events throughout 2026, their sights are firmly set on the Olympic qualifier events in 2027 and 2028. The journey to Olympic glory begins here, in the hallowed halls of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.
