In a disappointing turn of events for boxing enthusiasts, the highly anticipated show in Paris, scheduled for this Saturday, has been called off. The cancellation follows an adverse analytical finding in a recent drugs test by Lawrence Okolie, who was poised for a significant heavyweight bout against Tony Yoka.

The 33-year-old British boxer’s failed test, conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), left promoter Frank Warren in a scramble to find a last-minute replacement. Earlier on Tuesday, David Adeleye expressed his willingness to step into the ring on short notice, but later that day, the promotion company confirmed the cancellation of the entire event.

Queensberry issued a statement on their official social media platform, expressing their regret over the cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. They advised ticket holders to contact their point of purchase for refunds. The card was expected to showcase an exciting super welterweight match between WBC’s top contender, Bakary Samake, and Ermal Hadribeaj.

Okolie, maintaining his innocence, took to Instagram to address the situation. He attributed the failed test to a treatment he received for a bicep injury sustained last year and a recent elbow injury during his training camp. The London native expressed his hope for a fair investigation and pledged his full cooperation with the relevant authorities. He is confident that the investigation will clear his name and has requested privacy during this time.

Reports indicate that Okolie tested positive for GHRP-2 and its M8 metabolite, a synthetic substance known to stimulate the release of Human Growth Hormone. This substance is reputed for its ability to enhance muscle mass, improve recovery, and aid in fat loss. The positive test result and the subsequent cancellation of the fight have temporarily halted Okolie’s heavyweight world title aspirations.

Okolie, a former cruiserweight world champion, is currently the number one ranked contender with the WBC, trailing only the world champion, Oleksandr Usyk. This setback has undoubtedly cast a shadow over his career, but fans and fellow athletes alike await the results of the investigation and hope for a swift resolution.
