In the high-stakes world of professional boxing, negotiations and counteroffers are as much a part of the game as the fights themselves. Recently, Vergil Ortiz Jr. revealed that his offer for a neutral-site bout with Xander Zayas was met with silence. The young star claims that Zayas never followed up on the proposal, leaving Ortiz and his team in a state of uncertainty.

Ortiz, known for his impressive record and powerful performances in the ring, had extended an olive branch to Zayas, suggesting a fight that could have been a thrilling encounter for boxing enthusiasts. However, the lack of response from Zayas’ camp has left Ortiz and his manager, Rick Mirigian, in a state of limbo. Mirigian, never one to mince words, expressed his disappointment at the lack of engagement from Zayas’ team.

Meanwhile, Zayas has set his sights on a different challenge. He is gearing up for a title bout against Jaron “Boots” Ennis on June 27 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This fight, which promises to be a clash of titans, will see Zayas putting his WBA and WBO titles on the line against Ennis, who boasts an impressive record of 35-0 with 31 KOs and 1 No Contest.

The road to this fight has not been without its twists and turns. Ennis was initially in discussions for a highly anticipated fight with Ortiz Jr. However, a rift between Ortiz Jr.’s manager and Golden Boy Promotions over the purse offer led to a breakdown in negotiations. With both promoters now under the DAZN umbrella, a fight between Ortiz and Ennis became a more feasible prospect, but it seems the boxing gods had other plans.

As the boxing world eagerly awaits the Zayas-Ennis showdown, one can’t help but wonder what could have been if Zayas had taken up Ortiz’s offer. The neutral-site bout could have been a spectacle to remember, but for now, it remains a tantalizing “what if” in the annals of boxing history.

In the ever-evolving landscape of professional boxing, one thing is certain: the sport thrives on uncertainty and the unexpected. As fighters and their teams navigate the complex web of negotiations and counteroffers, fans are left on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the next big fight. For Vergil Ortiz Jr., the wait continues, but the hope for a high-profile bout remains alive.
