This Saturday, the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool will be the epicenter of a thrilling light heavyweight showdown. Ben Whittaker, the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, will step into the ring against Argentina’s Braian Suarez. This bout, originally a supporting act, has been elevated to the main event following Callum Smith’s withdrawal due to injury.

Whittaker, boasting an impressive record of 10-0-1 with 7 KOs, has been making waves in the boxing world. His debut with Matchroom Boxing last November was nothing short of spectacular, securing the WBC Silver light heavyweight title with a first-round knockout of Benjamin Gavazi. Nicknamed ‘The Surgeon,’ Whittaker is currently ranked third by the WBC, trailing only world champion David Benavidez.

Suarez, with a record of 21-4 and 20 KOs, is no stranger to the ring. Despite his losses, including a notable bout against Lyndon Arthur where he was knocked out in the 10th round after dropping Arthur earlier in the fight, Suarez remains a formidable opponent. His experience and power make him a significant threat to Whittaker’s undefeated streak.

The event will kick off at 7pm BST, with the main event scheduled for approximately 9:20pm BST. Fans worldwide can catch the action live on DAZN. The undercard promises to be just as exciting, featuring a lineup of talented fighters ready to showcase their skills.

Among the undercard bouts, Peter McGrail will face Ckari Cani Mansilla for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super bantamweight title. Additionally, Joe McGrail will defend his Central Area super bantamweight title against Aaron Hayden. Other notable fights include Stephen Clarke vs. Luis Enrique Montelongo Morales, Molly McCann vs. Ashleigh Johnson, and Tom Rafferty vs. Pablo Sosa.

Whittaker’s recent performances have been nothing short of dominant. His first-round KO of Benjamin Gavazi and a second-round TKO against Liam Cameron highlight his prowess. Suarez, on the other hand, has shown resilience and power, with recent victories including a second-round TKO against Sergio Santos Dantas and a majority decision win against Vasily Voytsekhovsky.

As the boxing world turns its eyes to Liverpool, anticipation builds for what promises to be a memorable night of fights. Whittaker’s rise in the light heavyweight division and Suarez’s determination to reclaim his dominance set the stage for an unforgettable clash.
